Tips for More Effective Email

The following tips are to make your e-notes far more welcome by your clients and prospects:

  • Never deliver bad news electronically.

  • Do NOT send an e-mail when you are angry.

  • Conserve the “cc” function, keeping your letters more direct.

  • Use complete, grammatical sentences.

  • Let your personality show through.  All writing, including e-mails, should be conversational in style

  • Address your recipient with a salutation and sign off with a close

  • Check your spelling!

  • Keep e-mails short.  People usually read just the first few lines

  • Be respectful of attaching large files or pictures

  • Understand that your e-mail affects your image: It represents your brand
